In-between all the sport, at the end of the Easter term, Orchard boys have still found time to incorporate music into a very busy timetable. The music department put on, as usual, an amazing Spring Concert, showing off lots of talent. All those hours of practicing had paid off and everyone involved was great. We also got a brief taste of what the Headmaster's Junior Choir have been working on, after many hours of rehearsals and many ringing ears due to the harmonious voices of Year Ten. Everyone at Shiplake heard the choir’s recital of ‘Joshua Fought the battle of Jericho’. It was a fabulous evening. Many thanks must go to Mrs Bingham, who we must now say good bye to for a year as she is off to have a baby, and Mrs Balderson.

Race Night - Orchard House Fundraiser
Following weeks of preparation from the Orchard House Parents Association, the first race of the evening got underway at 7.45 last night. The series of eight races were interspersed with a fish and chip supper laid on by our own catering staff, ably led by Steve Beaumont and also lots of fun and frivolity as the evening produced a few winners but even more losers (thankfully, for our coffers!).
On behalf of Orchard House, Mr Richard Curtis would like to thank all the members of the Orchard House Parents Association for giving up so much time and effort to lay on this hugely successful evening - proceeds of which will be going to both House funds and also to our nominated charity, the Chiltern Centre (see earlier blog).

More Sporting Success.....
On Saturday afternoon, the first round of the Senior House Hockey competition took place on the school astro, with Orchard first up against Everett House. The Orchard squad of Ruaridh Scott, Sam Baker, Harry Laflin, Zac Bigley, Ben Peers and Jesse Levin overwhelmed Everett in this first game, 6-0.
The second match of the afternoon was a much tougher encounter against a strong Welsh outfit. Despite an injury to one of the Orchard key strikers, Zac Bigley, Orchard managed to pull through, ending up 4-1 victors.
Orchard House now face Skipwith and Burr next week and victories here would secure the title!?!?

Queen Anne's Ballroom Dancing Ball
The Ballroom Dancing season came to a climax last night amidst a flurry of dinner suits, bow ties and a heavy downfall of snow!
The slippery conditions, however, did not affect the Shiplake College dancers, who romped to victory in this year's competition.
Star of the show was Tom "Hips" Jones (Orchard Year 12) and his version of the Jive. Well done to all the Orchard competitors.

House Music Competition
After setting a really high standard in last year's competition, Orchard House had a reputation to live up to this year: and, my word, did we live up to it!
The House secured first position in the House Solos, where individual musicians performed a piece of music of their own choosing. This was followed up by first place in the Whole House Song of "Jailhouse Rock", performed by every member of the House without the aid of lyrics, unlike all the other Houses and the competition was iced off with a first place in the Part Song, an arrangement of James Morrison's Broken Strings compiled superbly by Zahra Govani.
The quality of the House Music was absolutley sensational this year and if you would like to hear more please do find time to attend the Orchard House Music Concert next term (date to be confirmed).
A huge "WELL DONE" to every single member of the House for making this competition such a superb success.
